Fire Rating Advice

Recent technological advancements in glazing have yielded fire-rated components that meet safety standards without compromising the aesthetics of any project.

Fire-rated glass creates open, transparent spaces, unlike concrete or steel. At moda, we have everything you need to know about fire-rated glazing for floors, doors, windows, and walls, aiding your product selection for upcoming projects.

How does Fire Rated Glazing work?

In the event of a fire, our glazing design creates fire-resistant compartments between glass panes, preventing shattering. When exposed to heat, the outer glass layer breaks, however an intumescent layer swells up, in order to hold the pane in place.

This rapid expansion offers insulation, reducing heat transmission to protected areas and exit routes. These spaces are composed of fire-suppressing materials, able to contain the blaze and prevent radiant heat from spreading.

For projects where fire resistance is a main concern, correct installation is essential, as is using a fire-resistant frame system with framework, hinges, and components for optimal effectiveness. At moda, we'll talk through your requirements and make suggestions for what systems are best for your project, as well as further considerations like smoke screens to prevent the spread of smoke.
